A better way to access UpToDate

Are you still using your Athens password to access UpToDate? If so, there is a better way to access that not only gives you access to the full UpToDate database but also the App that allows you to access from your Smart phone or tablet. The App is compatible with Apple and Android devices.

To register:

  • Go to the MEHT intranet homepage and click the UpToDate icon
  • Click Log in/Register (top right of screen)
  • Complete the registration form – you can register using the email of your choice.
  • Select a Username and password.

Once registered, you use the username and password to access from a home PC or laptop, and to also login to the App (Just search for the UpToDate app in your usual App store & download to your device. You will only need to login once).

Verify your account every 90 days

You may have registered a few months ago – if so your account may be coming up for verification.

You will receive an email after 80 days to tell you to verify your account. It’s easy – just click the UpToDate logo on the Trust intranet homepage again & click Log in / Register. This time, log in (using Username and password you created) in the login box on the left hand side of the screen. All done – your account is now verified for another 90 days and you can continue to access as before.

CME Activity

You may have noticed that UpToDate records CME activity.

Once logged in, Click on the CME link at the top right of the screen.

Click “View/Change My Settings” from the menu on the left hand side.

Select “Time-based Tracking” from the options – this will now record the hours you spend on CME.

To print out a certificate, click “Process My CME/CE/CPD” from the left hand menu.

If you have previously accessed UpToDate with your Athens account it is possible to merge your Athens account with your individual account, ensuring your CME activity is carried over. To do this just email sitesupport@uptodate.com saying you wish to consolidate your Athens account with your current account. Please state your name, and the email address you used to register with Athens (if you cannot remember please email warner.library@meht.nhs.uk or phone x4708 and we can check for you)

 Training for individuals and Departments

I am now a certified Trainer for UpToDate, so if you would like to arrange a training session for yourself or your colleagues / team please get in touch. This would take about 15-20 minutes so could fit into a team meeting or CPD event.

For more help with the registration process please go to: http://meht-intranet/hr/learning-and-development/warner-library-services/uptodate/ (MEHT PC only)

Remember, you can still use your Athens account to access E-journals, E-books (including some titles from Oxford Online), Healthcare databases and ClinicalKey (hundreds of full text books and journals from Elsevier)

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Warner Library

E-Journals Guide

Accessing E-journals can be a bit of a minefield! We try to make it as easy as possible for you, but every journal publisher and provider has a different method for accessing their journals.

To try and help we have updated our E-Journals guide. This has been put together by EEHIST – a group of library trainers based in the East of England NHS. Please click here to download a copy.

Remember, to check which E-journals you can access go to EEL and click “Find a Journal”. Login with your NHS Athens username and password.

And if you need help, please contact the Warner Library.

Proquest – E-Journals Problem Update & Fix

As reported earlier, there are  problems accessing E-Journals via Proquest with your NHS Athens password if you are using an MEHT computer.

This effects links to full text journal articles via a database search or links to the journals via the A-Z list of e-journals on EEL. For Example:

Proquest link Or:

Proquest link HDAS

While this problem is being fixed, Proquest have sent us a direct web link to use.

Please contact the Warner Library with your NHS Athens username and we will email you the link to use.

Once you have the link, click it to access Proquest.

You can then copy and paste the title of the article you want to access into the search box and click the search button.

Proquest title search 2Proquest title result
If you want to browse a whole journal click “Publications” at the top of the screen and type the journal name into the search box.

Proquest journal search

Another way, is after clicking the link,  go back to your database results or A-Z list and click the Proquest link again. This should then take you to the journal.

Please note, access to Proquest journals and articles should work OK from home computers.

As soon as the problem has been fixed and you no longer need to do this I will let you know.

If you have any queries or would like the link please contact the Warner Team on x4708 or warner.library@meht.nhs.uk

Proquest – E-Journal problems

We are currently experiencing problems accessing E-journals via Proquest links.

This effects links from the A-Z journal list, the link to Proquest via My Athens and also links within database searches. The problem appears to effect access from home PCs as well as PCs within the Trust. The issue has been reported to Proquest and is being investigated.

Proquest link

If you cannot access an e-journal via Proquest, please contact the Warner Library (or your local NHS Library) with your request and we will try to obtain the article for you.

E-Journals – How to access ScienceDirect titles

December 4, 2012 1 comment

The login procedure for ScienceDirect e-journals has changed.

This effects about 30 titles including The Lancet, Burns, JPRAS, & Clinics in Plastic Surgery

If you are searching the A-Z list of e-journals  and find a link that reads “Available in full text from Elsevier in Elsevier Science Direct”  like this:Lancet SD link

Here is what to do next:

1.  Click the link to go to the ScienceDirect home page. At the top right of the page, click Login and then click “Go to Athens / Other Institution  login“.

SD Login

2. At the next screen,  Select “OpenAthens Federation (EduServ)” from the drop down menu and click Go. Then scroll down the screen and select “NHS England” from the list of Institutions.

SD Login select groupSD NHS England

3. If this is your first time accessing ScienceDirect you have an extra step to complete! At the top right of the page it now says “Activate Personalisation”. Click this and complete the form – you must do this before you can access journals.

You may find next time you try to login to a ScienceDirect title the system remembers you and you will automatically be logged in. However, you may also find  an extra link has appeared in the green panel that says “NHS England login” like this:

Science Direct Login

In this case, you can just use this link to login – this will bypass step 2.

If you have any questions or problems logging in please contact the Warner Library team, or your local NHS Library service if you are outside the Mid Essex area.
