Changes to Medline and PsycINFO

On 1st April 2015 there will be some “behind the scenes” changes to the NHS ATHENS database search (HDAS) of Medline and PsycINFO.

All existing saved searches and alerts in Medline & PsycINFO will be deleted on Monday 30th March 2015.

If you wish to keep your searches you will need to access and export them before 8am on Monday 30th March.

To download your saved searches do the following:

  • Login to Medline or PsycINFO using NHS ATHENS from – click “Search the databases”
  • click “saved searches” and select the saved search you wish to retain
  • “run” that search
  • once the search has completed you can either
    • copy and paste the strategy into a Word file, save it and keep it safe,
    • view the results from your search and select (tick) one article; scroll to the bottom of the screen and select ‘MS Word’ and the ‘Short’ Display Format and click on ‘Save Results’
This will save a  Word file with the strategy included.

Follow the same procedure for every search and alert you wish to keep.

Once the changes have been made to Medline and PsycINFO you will need to manually re-type your search / alert and save it again.

Please note – this will not affect any saved searches/alerts in the other HDAS databases (CINAHL, Embase, AMED, BNI, HMIC, Health Business Elite).

Please contact the Warner Library ( or 01245 514708) if you would like any help in downloading your searches. More detailed instructions can be found here.

E-Journals Guide

Accessing E-journals can be a bit of a minefield! We try to make it as easy as possible for you, but every journal publisher and provider has a different method for accessing their journals.

To try and help we have updated our E-Journals guide. This has been put together by EEHIST – a group of library trainers based in the East of England NHS. Please click here to download a copy.

Remember, to check which E-journals you can access go to EEL and click “Find a Journal”. Login with your NHS Athens username and password.

And if you need help, please contact the Warner Library.

Proquest – E-Journals Problem Update & Fix

As reported earlier, there are  problems accessing E-Journals via Proquest with your NHS Athens password if you are using an MEHT computer.

This effects links to full text journal articles via a database search or links to the journals via the A-Z list of e-journals on EEL. For Example:

Proquest link Or:

Proquest link HDAS

While this problem is being fixed, Proquest have sent us a direct web link to use.

Please contact the Warner Library with your NHS Athens username and we will email you the link to use.

Once you have the link, click it to access Proquest.

You can then copy and paste the title of the article you want to access into the search box and click the search button.

Proquest title search 2Proquest title result
If you want to browse a whole journal click “Publications” at the top of the screen and type the journal name into the search box.

Proquest journal search

Another way, is after clicking the link,  go back to your database results or A-Z list and click the Proquest link again. This should then take you to the journal.

Please note, access to Proquest journals and articles should work OK from home computers.

As soon as the problem has been fixed and you no longer need to do this I will let you know.

If you have any queries or would like the link please contact the Warner Team on x4708 or

Proquest – E-Journal problems

We are currently experiencing problems accessing E-journals via Proquest links.

This effects links from the A-Z journal list, the link to Proquest via My Athens and also links within database searches. The problem appears to effect access from home PCs as well as PCs within the Trust. The issue has been reported to Proquest and is being investigated.

If you cannot access an e-journal via Proquest, please contact the Warner Library (or your local NHS Library) with your request and we will try to obtain the article for you.

E Journal Problems

October 22, 2012 1 comment

We have noticed some inaccuracies with date coverage of e-journals on  My Journals (the A-Z list of e-journals). This appears to be mainly effecting the titles provided by Ovid and Elsevier. Hopefully, this will be sorted soon, but in the meantime please contact the Warner Library if you cannot access a journal issue you need via My Journals.
